By The Water

She stares into the waters edge, Waiting for the wave to lap at her feet.

As the sky turns pink, orange, midnight,

The water changes course and retreats to where it came

So she sits on the sand and let’s her mind wander

Never knowing what the tides will bring.

So when he comes, she isn’t surprised.

Rather, she waits for his reason, and listens to the lies that come from his mouth.

At the waters edge she learns truth and betrayal. Of heartbreak and freedom.

But he speaks with a biblical sense of moral. And she knows he believes his words

So she lets him baptize her in the murky waters , while he prays to a God who stopped blessing fanatics.

And with faith alone she prays she’ll see the new dawn.
